Your name and job title

Mark Lui
Power Platform Consultant and Developer

Your background

I began my career in Microsoft server administration and, for the past five years, have specialised in Microsoft’s Power Platform. I previously worked in Hong Kong, collaborating with IT professionals from around the world, and am now based in the UK. Throughout my career, I have delivered solutions with diverse teams, broadening my perspective and strengthening my technical expertise.

Explain a little about your area of expertise and what you do at Economit

I specialise in building business solutions using Microsoft’s Power Platform, including Power Apps, Power Automate, and related tools. At Economit, I design and develop applications, automate workflows, and integrate data to improve efficiency and streamline processes for clients. I work closely with users to gather feedback and continuously refine solutions, ensuring they align with business needs and deliver practical value.

What attracted you to this type of role and how long have you worked in this area?

I was attracted to this role because I wanted to move from a Microsoft server administrator role into a development-focused position. After many years in server administration, I was looking to work more on building solutions and automating processes. Power Platform gave me that opportunity. Working with cloud-based platforms also allowed me to work from home, which lets me spend more time taking care of my family. I have been working with Power Platform for about five years, using Power Apps, Power Automate, and related tools.

My favourite bit of my job is...

My favourite bit of my job is building solutions that solve real problems, polishing them based on user feedback, and seeing people use them in their day-to-day work.

In my spare time, you’ll find me…

In my spare time, you’ll find me spending time with my kids, cooking, and playing games.

My first memory of technology was...

My first memory of technology was trying to figure out how the Internet worked and how content was delivered through web pages during the 56k modem era. I remember being fascinated by how a simple connection could bring information from around the world, and I spent hours experimenting with browsers, HTML, and early online tools to understand how it all worked.

The best piece of IT advice I’ve ever been given...

The best piece of IT advice I’ve ever been given is to always understand the problem and think about the ROI before jumping into a solution. It’s important to consider things from the user’s perspective, ensuring the IT solution can be easily integrated into their work and ultimately make their life easier.

My top takeaway for clients is...

We build solutions, not technology. I focus on delivering practical, easy-to-use tools that make their work easier and help them achieve their goals.
