The article on Economit in this month's In Business magazine
Economit have a half page article in this months In Business magazine whereby we discuss the issues businesses currently face surrounding the way they both use IT and pay for it.
With the economy likely to be heading along a continued rocky path, businesses both small and large will continue to strive to find new and innovative ways of not only reducing operational costs but also to use existing investments to maximise return wherever possible.
Information Technology assumes a different mantle across every individual business and can be viewed anywhere from a necessary evil "that just needs to work" to the other end of the spectrum whereby it is seen as one of the major business enablers within the organisation. IT is a vital tool for doing business that when utilised to its full potential can greatly simplify business processes, reduce unnecessary duplication of work, increase operational efficiency and provide users with a flexible easy to access and highly available method of working.
Many of the world's leading IT organisations such as Microsoft along with leading industry analysts like the Gartner Group are now uniformly stating that the roles and consequently the importance of IT professionals to businesses is changing rapidly and almost unrecognisably from that of the cliched "forever-fire-fightingsystems-administrator" to one of a strategic business professional first and foremost. A role that requires high technical skill and adeptness, yes but also one that is keenly business aware, with a mind-set of ensuring that the business thrives financially and is protected in its utilisation of IT.
Economit is an IT consultancy firm based in Castle Donington which launched in 2011 delivering independent and impartial business focused IT consultancy to organisations of all sizes. Established by Nick Gall and Mike Donoghue, both IT professionals with a combined 30 years of industry knowledge and experience, Economit intends to help businesses on their journey of employing IT to achieve their business objectives.
"I honestly dont believe there is a business in existence that fully utilises the potential of the IT systems it has in place" Mike Donoghue stated. "If a business regularly makes use of say 10% of available IT systems functionality then would it be able to measure the return on if it were able to utilise 12% for example? And how would it get to that point?" he added. Nick Gall continued "Would the underlying infrastructure be sufficiently capable of more utilisation or would investments have to be made to make that possible? Would any investment made be ultimately worth it?".
These questions are just some of the many that Economit want to get business owners asking themselves.
It's easy to ask the questions although significantly harder to answer them and even more difficult to develop a strategy or roadmap that provides the answers - this is where Economit adds real value.
